About the Author

Dr Tim Price, the author of Maths Connections, has been developing computer software for the past 20 years, starting at school where he wrote programs in BASIC and assembly language on the Commodore Pet and the BBC Micro for the Maths and Science departments to use in class.

After gaining five A grades at A level, he went on to study Physics at University College, Oxford, also winning the national Young Electronic Designer of the Year award in his first year for a microprocessor-based Digital Audio Processor.

He graduated with First Class Honours and stayed on to complete his doctorate in the Nonlinear Systems Group at the Clarendon Laboratory, Oxford (his work made the front cover of Nature magazine) before taking up a two-year post-doctoral position at the Ecole Normale Supérieure, Paris, where he carried out further research (in French!) into theoretical aspects of chaos and nonlinear flows, working alongside leading names in the field.

He has taught both Physics and Maths at Westminster School, London and then at Dauntsey's School, Wiltshire where he first developed Maths Connections. He also finds time to juggle, play violin and jazz piano and sing, as well as having composed and directed a musical for schools, Theseus, which played to packed houses at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 2001.

Dr Price is married with two young daughters, both of whom are still happily oblivious to the delights of Mathematics...
